Year 4

Week beginning: 26th June

READING BOOKS: Thank you to everyone who is supporting our children with their reading books. We can already see a big improvement in confidence and understanding. However, it is essential that these books are brought into school each day, finished or not, so that records of progress can be checked and that children can read if there is a spare 10 minutes! The children are also encouraged to read any other book for pleasure - probably with your support to ensure clarity and to increase enjoyment and understanding. Again this can also be logged in the Home reading record book

Can we also ask that you continue to access Reading Plus/ Reading eggs as these programs also provide individual challenge to the children.

If you need help with suitable devices to access on-line learning, please contact the office for support.

Meet the team!

Miss Quayle, Miss West, Mr Maniar, Mrs Firth, Miss Wilkinson,

Miss Gharda and Mrs Maw-day.

Messages can always be passed on to LEARNING MENTORS in the playground but if you need to speak to the teachers in more detail it will be best to make an appointment via the office.

HOMEWORK

It is essential to encourage and support your children to complete their homework on Reading Plus/Reading eggs and TTrockstars.

Both programs are tailored to individual progress and are designed to help your children make steady progress.

Reading plus is much easier to follow on a tablet, laptop or PC as a phone is just too small. Individual lessons are set to be completed each week. Each lesson should take about 20 minutes and after a pre-determined number of lessons the next level can be achieved. One 20 minute session a day will be much more beneficial than an hour in one go!

TT Rockstars is another great tool which will help develop your child's understanding and recall of timestable facts.  The SOUNDCHECK game is particularly helpful as it mimics the National Times- table test that Year 4 children will take next summer term.

   This weeks learning

Assessment week - This week is assessment week. We will have assessments in Maths, Reading and SPAG

We will be carrying on with our Writing unit this week - The Whale. This pencil-sketched book tells the story of two children who see a spotted whale, but are not believed when they return home to tell their tale. Years later, two children who are strangers, go on a quest to find this spotted whale. We will be planning our independent write which will include coming up with plot points and a success criteria.

Maths

This week we will carry on with our unit on decimals. We will focus on ordering decimals, rounding to the nearest whole number, looking at halves and quarters before moving onto money.

Foundation subjects

This week we will carry on with our History unit on World War 2. We will focus on the events leading up to the World War. The first lesson for this week will be related to The Blitz.

Below are the units that your child will be learning over the course of the year, so please help by testing you child a couple of times a week and further their learning. Thank you!
